Crimson sky rise is about exploring complementary colour combinations. This is one of the first paintings I have completed which looks at a building from an upward perspective. My intention was to portray the block of flats present within my environment, in a more dominant and dramatic role. I wanted the building in this painting to represent my view of an English man’s home is his castle but combined with bright colour to represent how children’s playgrounds are painted as the bare concrete grey was not enough to express my anamnesis of this place. As this building is where my great aunt and uncle lived. They Allowed me to treat it like a playground with one of my younger brothers, which along with my grandmother and grandfather soon became a make ship castle, spaceship, paper aeroplane airport…
