Balancing Chairs – Alex Shaw
The above photographs were taken during a experimental session within a gallery space in London Bridge (This eventually turned into Endmor’s Limbo exhibition), these pieces had not been planned in advance making this a very instinctual process, I eventually came to the conclusion that I was experimenting with the idea of being able to create something from nothing. Exploring the idea that humans have the unique ability to find value in nothing and this allows us to take objects for more than just a physical entity.
The work was sparked by a heap of junk and wood sat outside the backdoor to the space, I was intrigued by the fact that I was able to envision these scraps of wood and junk as something greater and more beautiful. Although one could say that these pieces were in a sense meaningless for me they spoke of human innovation and our ability to build from the ground up. But remove a single building block and we crash back down to the ground once again.
