From Out Of The Ashes – London Art Fair – Alex Shaw
‘From Out Of The Ashes’, consists of three parts that were all created simultaneously. The first was the installation, the second was the performance, this was a happening of life created by the security guards who destroyed the work on the front door steps of the exhibition space. The third was a film created By Zack Daynes.
A team and myself transported this work to the ‘London Art Fair’, this was done to make a statement on who has the right to create and display artwork, an experiment to see if the ‘High Art’ world truly supported the idea of creativity and the idea that any individual should have the right to create freely.
Once the piece had been installed we filmed the security guards to the space destroy the work. I feel that the art world is controlled by the minority, the work is sold at huge prices for the wrong reasons, nothing more than a show of wealth. The work made by someone the world does not know is worth just as much as the work of someone that world adores, its just one has a money value.
